Monthly retainer engagement with a licensed MGA
Challenge
A large managing general agency needed ongoing engineering and advisory capacity without growing fixed headcount.
Approach
We set up a recurring Retainer engagement: flexible monthly hours against a collaboratively-scoped backlog.
Outcome
Engagement in progress; outcome metrics pending Rob sign-off.
A licensed managing general agency supporting thousands of associates across North America needed steady engineering judgement and delivery capacity, but not another full-time hire. Their workload pattern was bursty: some months a major system change, others a steady stream of smaller improvements.
What we did
A Retainer engagement, structured as a fixed monthly envelope of hours against a jointly-managed backlog. Priorities reset monthly with their leadership. Scope stays deliberately flexible: we pick the work up where the internal team can't, rather than duplicating it.
What we avoided
Fixed-fee statements of work for every small piece of work. A separate vendor contract for every adjacent service line. The overhead of treating a trusted ongoing partnership like a procurement exercise.
